Government Launches New Draft SEND Inspection Framework

Another day another consultation, we know it can seem very repetitive and dreary responding to these endless surveys but it is so important that we continue to respond!

More than half of Local Authorities inspected since 2016 were found to be failing their SEND community with most areas subsequently re-visited showing no improvement.

Things needed to change …

The government have now released a new draft SEND inspection framework which is open to public consultation until the 11th September.
This new framework proposes the following …
  • Focus on impact on the child or young person with SEND and their families
  • The child/young person’s experience
  • Three new ratings will be introduced …
  1. Positive outcomes
  2. Inconsistent experiences and outcomes
  3. Widespread systematic failings
Each of these ratings will have varying levels of follow up, including in the worst cases an 18 month follow up which will check progress against a ‘Priority Action Plan’ which will be published by Ofsted/CQC.
  • Increased scrutiny around the appropriate use of alternative provision.

These changes will inevitably impact all of our families and with our input this will help to ensure this change is positive.

Please follow the link below to read more about this consultation, there is also an easy read version available. Parents/carers, children and young people with SEND along with those who work with and support them are all invited to share their views on this vital new framework, there is even a dedicated Young Person’s Consultation Page.
